Terms To Be Announced

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, March 19. Terms of reference for the Commission of Inquiry into the New Zealand shipping industry are expected to be announced by the Minister of Labour (Mr Marshall) next week.

It is expected that Mr Marshall will seek an interim report from the commission for consideration by Parliament by July or August. An inquiry into the maritime industry was promised by the Government during the Wainui dispute. The secretary of Labour (Mr N. S. Woods) met representatives of the Merchant Service Guild and Marine Engineers’ Institute on Wednesday; and today had talks with the president of the Seamen’s Union (Mr W. Martin).
