LOAN FOR HOTEL
Licence Due To Expire
The licence of the Bruce Hotel, Akaroa, will expire next Saturday. A spokesman for the State Advances Corporation in Wellington said that a decision would be made before then on an application by Mr D. L. Clark for a loan to enable building a two-storey hotel with 20 bedrooms.
The hotel is the oldest in the South Island, and has been working on a temporary licence since fire almost demolished the building about eight years ago. If finance is not available, the hotel may close. An earlier application by Mr Clark for a loan was rejected; but the Wellington spokesman for the corporation said that there had been new evidence late last week. This was being considered by the hotel advisory committee.
