Flats For Aged
Plans were being considered for several blocks of flats for aged persons to be built round Fairhaven, the home for the aged run by the Methodist Central Mission in Harewood Road, the superintendent of the mission (the Rev. W. E. Falkingham) told the quarterly meeting of the mission’s board of management. Mr Falkingham said it was hoped that definite proposals could be made at a combined meeting of members of the mission, the Methodist Church’s building and loan fund and the South Island Methodist Children's Home Board to be held in about two weeks. The present plans, which had yet to be made final, provided for a block of six flats facing Harewood Road and two blocks each containing four flats, one at the rear of the home and the other facing the drive. Mr Falkingham said that he had already-been approached by several persons interested in obtaining flats and he felt that it was time that the project was started and at least, six flats built. Several persons had already said that they would be prepared to pay $5OOO, the full cost of a flat.
The rental for each flat while reasonable, would cover the cost of major requirements.
