RAIDS ON LAOS
Supply Trail Bombed
(N.Z Press Assn.—Copyright) SAIGON, Feb. 25.
American Stratofortress bombers flew over Laos last night and again today to bomb what official sources describe as the heaviest stream of North Vietnamese war supplies moving south since the beginning of the Vietnam war.
The United States Military Command diverted the bombers to Laos from Vietnam for the fifth time in a little more than a week. But, despite the raids in Laos, North Vietnamese troops captured the Plain of Jars on Saturday and the town of Muong Soui yesterday. Traffic on northern reaches of the Ho Chi Minh Trail, over which men and material are transported to the battlefields of South Vietnam, has reached a record level, according to official sources in Saigon. But battle action in Vietnam is at its lowest point since last October. Communiques reported only four scattered clashes involving American troops yesterday.
