(N.Z P.A.-Reuter— Copyright) NEW YORK, Feb. 25. Princess Ashraf Pahlavi, a sister of the Shah of Iran, has been elected, by acclamation. as chairman of the United Nations Commission On Human Rights for 1970. The commission representing 32 nations began its flve-week session yesterday, during which the subject of human rights violations—and particularly allegations nf such violations in the Middle East and Southern Africa—are expected to head the agenda. The nomination of Princess Pahlavi, who immediately took over as chairman from Mr R. Q. QuentinBaxter. of Christchurch. New Zealand, was proposed by France, Sengal and Jugoslavia.
Mr Quentin-Baxter is now a professor of law at Victoria University of Welling* ton.
In her opening speech, the Princess expressed the hope that 1170. In which occurs the twentyfifth anniversary of the United Nations, would be a turning point in the world body’s action in the field of human rights.
