NORMAL SCHOOL
Future Not Decided (From Ottr Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, February 25 The future of the old Nor inal School in Christchurch would depend largely on the needs of the Christchurch Technical Institute, the Minister of Education (Mr Taiboys) said today. He said the latest structural report received from the Ministry of Works had recommended that the building not be occupied after the secondary department of the Christchurch Teachers’ College moved to its new buildings, at present under construction at Ilam. The transfer of the department was unlikely to he completed for some weeks. “If future developments indicate that it is essential to retain the site of the old Normal School for Technical institute purposes, then it will be necessary to demolish the building," said Mr Taiboys.
“if, on the other hand, the site will not be required for education purposes, both the land and the buildings will be transferred in the usual manner to the Lands and Survey Department for disposal.”
