The Intellectually Handicapped
Karen, of Hamilton, who Is almost four years of age and is still unable to walk, Stars in the film “A Future for Karen” which has been produced by an Auckland film company for the Intellectually Handicapped Children’s Society, to give interested people and the public generally an insight into the problems of the intellectually handicapped and their families and the Services that are being provided for them. The film will be screened on television from Wellington and Christchurch on Wednesday, March 4—from
Wellington at. 6.36 p.m. and from Christchurch at 6.37 p.m.
Karen is one of almost 10,000 intellectually handicapped people in New Zealand, and this documentary film in which she stars examines the past, present and future of these people. The camera team spent two weeks filming’ at the I.H.C. centre in Hamilton and interviewing mothers, social workers and other people closely concerned with the problemThe film runs for 20 minutes.
