Bequest Used For Paintings

A bequest, made more than 40 years ago by the late Wil liam Ballantyne, was used by the City Council’s cultural committee towards its share of the cost of the John Weeks collection of paintings, the chairman (Cr H. G. Hay), said last evening. The collection of 30 works includes oils, (vater-colours pastels, and drawings, and has been bought jointly bj the four major galleries. The Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council has paid $2OOO towards the purchase, making the cost to each gallery $2OOO
