ILMENITE SANDS

Development Work Begins (From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, Feb. 5. Carpentaria Exploration, Ltd, a subsidiary of Mount Isa Mines, Ltd, has moved from the exploratory to the development phase in its search for ilmenite sands north of Greymouth, in the Barrytown area. The exploration division, under the party leader (Mr C. Aldridge) will remain at Hokitika, while the mineral sands division, under the development superintendent (Mr A. Farmer) will move to Barrytown. The present pilot plant will be extended and the company is now calling for additional drillers and drillers’ assistants to join the company.

Company officials yesterday were cautious about the prospects, but said they were “promising.” The company hopes to produce a processed ilmenite product for export. ; “On the exploration side iwe have only recently departed from mineral sands alone,” said Mr Aldridge. “Now we are interested in any minerals of potentially economic value. We would like to hear from anyone who has information or from anyone who would like to sell mining privileges,” he said.
