Farm Extension Planning
The requirements of agricultural extension in New Zealand for the next 10 years and plans to meet those requirements will be discussed at Massey University in May.
Fifty representatives of organisations working with agricultural extension are expected to gather for the proposed two-day seminar.
According to the event’s chairman, Mr J. M. Hercus, of the Department of Agriculture, the seminar will seek to “point generally to requirements of extension in agriculture in the foreseeable future.” Topics to be discussed include education and training for extension workers; co-ordination between research, extension and the farmer; and the types of advisory services that Will be needed in the 1980 s.
Findings and recommendations of the seminar will be submitted to the Minister of Agriculture, the Agricultural Production Council, and all groups involved in the seminar. Participants are expected to come from the Department of Agriculture, the Dairy Board, the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, farm improvement clubs, universities, and other extensionoriented organisations.
