Points For Caucus
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Feb. 5. National Party Caucus matters referred to by the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) today after discussion had been held include: Auckland Visit: Caucus members had “fully endorsed” the Government’s action on the allegations of police brutality during the visit of the United States vice-president (Mr Agnew). Mr Holyoake reported to Caucus on the decision not to hold a public inquiry.
Hydatids. —New regulations governing the control of hydatids can be expected soon. Caucus was informed by the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Carter) about discussions he had had with farmers as a basis for new regulations. Caucus also discussed the need for greater uniformity in agricultural education in New Zealand. Lotteries.—Possible changes in the lotteries at present available in New Zealand—and possible new types of lotiteries—were discussed today by Caucus The Minister of (Internal Affairs (Mr Seath) reported to Caucus on the history of the Golden Kiwi loteries, the present position, and possible changes. Caucus agreed that it would like to have a more precise report and would like to have the opportunity to discuss it before changes were made. Airport Liquor.—Liquor might soon be available for sale at New Zealand airports if legislation now being considered becomes law. Caucus has empowered the Minister of Transport (Mr Gordon) to prepare draft legislation allowing the sale of liquor at airports. It was reported to Caucus that there had not been “one questionable incident” arising from the sale of liquor on the “Blue Streak,” the high-quality rail-car service between Wellington and Auckland.
