Oxford Medical Services
Sir, —May 1 ask the Oxford; County Council what they in-j ( tend doing about a resident doctor for the district? One has to make an appointment now a week in advance; a person could be dead by then. How is one supposed to manage with old people to look after? It seems as if we will have to wait until one of the councillors themselves get really sick and then something will be done.—Yours, etc., (Mrs) O. REID, i January 26, 1970. [The Oxford County Clerk i(Mr J. A. Gardner) replies:! “The council has been active! lin obtaining the best possible medical service for the district, bearing in mind the [national shortage of doctors and their reluctance to take up country practices. Concern over this situation has already been expressed by the Government, organisations such ■ as Federated Farmers and has (been the subject of repeated editorials in ’The Press.’ The efforts of this council have resulted in the arrangements for a doctor to visit Oxford every week-day Monday to Fridays. Unfortunately this service has recently been temporarily reduced to visits on Mondays and Thursdays by factors outside the control of this council.”]
