Surf Board Ban

Sir, —Surely with this wonderful sweep of beach from Cave Rock to Scarborough Hill, there is room enough for both surf-riders and bathers? The rock formation at both ends causes the

roll which makes these areas a surfer’s paradise, but there is still all the sea in between, seldom used by surfers but ideal for bathers. Could the council put another ramp at iMenzies Street and reserve the area from there to Hardwicke Street, for bathers? This would allow the surfers the use of the beach from Scarborough Hill to just south of Menzies Street, and Cave Rock to Hardwicke Street. Then both old and young could enjoy this Godgiven beach, in harmony.— Yours, etc., ONE OF THE BATHERS. February 4, 1970. [This correspondence is now closed. Ed., “The Press.”]
