Rise In State Pay Soon

(.Veto Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 4. An over-all wage increase of about 3 per cent is expected to be announced this month for State servants.

The increase, details of which are being negotiated between the State Services Commission and State service organisations, will be the first to be granted under last year’s State Services Remuneration and Conditions of Employment Act.

The Act replaced the earlier annual ruling rates survey procedures with half' yearly surveys conducted by the Labour Department. The Deputy Prime Minister (Mr Marshall) said before Christmas that the halfyearly survey for the period

April to October had revealed a 2.1 per cent increase in private sector wage rates. This increase will be passed on to State servants, along with upward adjustments arising chiefly from private sector increases dating from before April, last year. The chairman of the State Services Commission (Mr A. G. Rodda) would not comment tonight on the extent of the likely increases.
