STATE AID
Views Being Sought (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 4. A joint Cabinet-caucus committee is being set up to hear submissions on the question of State aid to independent schools. Announcing this today, the Minister of Education (Mr Taiboys) said this was to “give further study to the submissions of the Committee of Independent Schools and to consult all other people or organisations who may wish to make representations on the controversial question.” Mr Taiboys said he had written to those major organisations which were known to him to be interested in the subject. They had been asked to provide copies of their representations in writing by February 16.
The Educational Institute had received an invitation to make submissions and would do so, said its president (Mr J. Dwyer). The president of the PostPrimary Teachers’ Association (Mr E. F. Hamill) said his association welcomed the Government’s request for submissions.
