MINERAL WATER

No Assurance Of Supply (Prom Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, Jan. 30. Health Department officials require more details before they are prepared to give unqualified assurances that mineral water can be made available to Mr H. E. M. Wright proprietor of Hamner House, Hamner Springs, for a conference centre. “The main problem is the responsibility of the hospital to the public,” said the Director of Mental Health (Dr S. W. P. Mirams). “According to expert investigations some 4000 gallons of mineral water an hour is available altogether—but there is some doubt as to what would happen if another bore was put down.

“One source says that the flow would increase, but the temperature would drop. The only way of finding out seems to be to try it—with what

could be disastrous results to the present supply.” Dr Mirams said that Mr Wright had discussed matters with him last week, but that plans and details of financial support required further clarification. If the latest figures supplied by Mr Wright were definite it seemed likely that the Department would be able to supply the water required, and some would be left over for the public.

“We have to be very sure of the amount needed, and of the finality of the plans, before we can give a definite asurance of supply,” Dr Mirams said.
