WASSAILING IN FULL SWING.—The ancient ceremony of wassailing was carried out in a cider orchard at Carhampton, Somerset, recently. The festivities, which dae back to the thirteenth century, involve drinking, dancing, singing, and firing shotguns to frighten away “evil spirits.” In the foreground is Miss Joyce Jett, of Washington State, who was elected “International Wassail Queen.”
