RECORD JUMP
Horse Does 6ft B|in (N.Z. Press Association) GISBORNE. The Te Awamutu horse. Town Boy. ridden by C. Clarke, jumped 6ft SJin to break the New Zealand high jump record by two inches when winning the A Grade puissance at the New Zealand Horse Society's show yesterday. The record was previously held by R. NcVicar, of South Auckland, and was made in 1967 on Cavalier. Town Boy broke the record in a jump-off with Crackerjack, ridden by R. Allen, of New South Wales. All but two of the 16 competitors cleared the first round and nine had clear rounds in the second. In the third, only three horses. Town Boy, Moonbi (L. Ball, New South Wales) and Crackerjack had clear rounds. In the jump-off, Crackerjack and Town Boy had four faults each and Moonbi seven. A final jump-off over two hurdles was required and Town Boy broke the record at the brick wall to win first prize. Other results were: Improvers' Hit and Hurry.— lagoo (C. Te Puke) 3. Improvers' Table A.—Randall (D. C. Webb, Gisborne) 1, lagoo 2, Alibi (S. A. Mitchell, Gisborne) 3. Waihirere Wines A Grade, Table A.—Walnut (S. A. Mitchell, Gisborne) 1, Rajah (N. Harvey, New South Wales) 2, Peter Pan (C. Mclntosh, Kaikohe) and Nautical (M. Thompson, Hawke's Bay) (equal) 3. Room Damaged.—Fire damaged a room in a house at 19 Exeter Street, Lyttelton, early yesterday. Firemen said that a banked fire ir a grate had flared and ignited the walls. Two units from Lyttelton and one from Woolston attended the fire.
