Polling In Lesotho

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MASERU (Lesotho), January 29. The Prime Minister of Lesotho (Chief Leabua Jonathan) and the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nisu Mokhehle) retained their seats with large majorities in the tiny African monarchy’s first postindependence General Election. Results announced late last night gave Chief Jonathan’s Basutoland National Party 60 seats in Parliament. In his home constituency, the Prime Minister polled 4296 votes, compared with his Congress Party opponent’s 1700; and Mr Mokhehle received 4535 votes in his district for a majority of 2100.
