British Leyland has announced a bonus system to encourage private entrants in motor sport Payments will be made to drivers of B.L.M.C. cars for class placings and outright victories in British and international races, rallies and hill climbs. Separate bonus schemes are likely to be introduced in the United States and Canada. ¥ * * Sixteen countries are now represented in the entries for the World Cup rally from London to Mexico, the latest acceptances including teams from Italy, Peru, and Jugoslavia. Twp teams have been entered from Thailand, and one of them will have as its technical
adviser the famous racing; driver of the 19305, Prince Bira. The entry is a British Leyland 1800. * * * The new Matra Formula' I car is now being tested < in France, and will soon: be sent to South Africa for further testing before the South African Grand Prix in March. This year the Matra cars will use new Matra Vl2 engines in place of the Cosworth-Ford units used last year. The drivers will be J-P. Beltoise, and H. Pescarolo. ¥ ¥ ¥ Jackie Stewart will be the number one driver in the Tyrell team of MarchFord cars this season, and it has now been announced that the second driver will be the Frenchman, J. Ser-voz-Gavin. Last year Seri voz-Gavin drove for Matra, racing the company’s four-wheel-drive car.
