SIMULATOR READY

Use Soon By Air N.Z. Air New Zealand's DCB flight simulator will come into use at the airline's crewtraining establishment at Mangere on Monday. The sl.2m simulator, a replica of a DCB cockpit, arrived in New Zealand in September from its Canadian manufacturer, the C.A.E. Industries "llectroni: Division, in Montreal. Since then it has been put through its systems and acceptance checks. Use of the Simulator will allow a significant saving of money for the airline, which has had to use a DCS jet for flight training at a cost often exceeding $5OO an hour—a role which also prevented the aircraft from earning revenue. Airline officials expect the initial 25 per cent reduction in aircraft use for training to rise t' 50 per cent. The simulator will be used by most Air New Zealand pilots and flight crews as they have their six-month proficiency checks or prepare for conversion to the DCBs from the Electras.
