Better Prospects For Dowling
Although the availability of the New Zealand captain, G. T. Dowling, for Canterbury's match with the Australian touring team on February 20 is still in doubt, prospects of him playing are now brighter than they were a few days ago. Dowling injured the middle finger of his left hand when keeping wicket during New Zealand’s recent Australian tour.
It is at present firmly bound and taped, and it will
be at least 10 days before it is released, but there is some chance that he will be able to start practising by the second week in February. B. R. Taylor, who has been out of cricket since December 12 with a thumb injury, had the plaster removed yesterday and last evening had his first practice. He will be playing in the senior championship for East Christchurch-Shirley on Saturday and in the first round of the A.N.Z. Bank knock-out tournament on Sunday.
