COIN-IN-SLOT PETROL

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 25. The purchase of coin-in-the-slot petrol is a brisk affair. At the first coin-operated pump in Auckland customers have to insert their money in the coin machine, move about 10 feet to the pump, put the hose nozzle in the car tank, and use up their quota within three minutes. “The coin machine has to be 10 feet away because we are bound by legislation,” said Mr N. H. Dorrington, manager of the service station where the first automatic pump was installed today. The pump stops automatically when 50c worth of petrol has entered the tank.
