TOWN HALL LOAN

$60,000 Still Needed

Subscriptions of $60,000 are needed to fill the first Christchurch Town Hall loan of $500,000 before it closes at the end of this month. Cr H. G. Hay, chairman of the Town Hall Committee, said yesterday that the response by private investors and institutions had been encouraging. He hoped that the full amount would be subscribed, and reminded investors of the holiday period when offices would be dosed. Now that there had been big pay-outs and many persons had their holiday pay in their pockets they might be interested in investing in the Town Hall, he said. The first year’s construction of a long-awaited and demanded amenity for Christchurch had been completed without recourse to loan, Cr Hay said. The next loan issue would not be until well into next year.
