Nagle Now $6000 Richer

(N.Z. Press .Association) WELLINGTON. “It’s not really the cash; I just love to win,” was how the Australian, K. D. G. Nagle, summed up his third successive victory on Saturday on this season’s New Zealand golf circuit. Nagle won the Caltex $5OOO

| tournament at Paraparaumu by an overwhelming seven strokes and brought his winnings to $6OOO in the last three weeks.

With his nine-under-par, 72hole total of 275, Nagle added the Caltex to his victories in the New Zealand Open and the Christchurch Garden City Classic.

“It’s great to have three in a row,” he said, “but I did not play really well at Paraparaumu until the last day.” Nagle’s steadiness was shown in his scoring over the last 36 holes on Saturday. He dropped only two shots all day and had eight birdies. Only the Australian, E. W. Dunk, who shared second place on 282 with New Zealand's leading prospect, G. M. Lister, gave even the slightest bint that Nagle was in danger of being caught. Dunk cut Nagle’s 54-hole lead of six shots in half, after 68 holes, but be could not

maintain this form. Lister’s second placing for the third successive tournament was made possible by a stunning final round of 65, which included a course record of 29 for the home-

ward half. On the last nine holes he shot five birdies, three in succession, and had an eagle three at the eighteenth when he sank a 20ft putt. This was after he had gone out in 36 (one over). He would have been threatening R. J. Charles’s

course record of 62 had he ) managed an eagle at the [sixth after reaching the green’ in one. However, he threeputted. The 20-year-old K. Garner,

of Melbourne, crashed on Saturday morning when he shot a 10-over 81 after having led the field by two shots at the half-way mark. The Australian, R. J. Vines, had a hole-in-one at the 198yard second in his final round of 67. But his four-round total of 287 was 12 strokes behind Nagle.
