Eire Damages Van

Christchurch firemen were called at the same minute yesterday to two car fires. Both calls came at 4.11 p.m..

One fire severely damaged a van.

Mrs G. Buller, of 27A Matai Street, the driver of the van, jumped out seconds after it caught fire in Mona Vale Avenue. The front wheels crashed across a deep culvert but the vehicle stopped when the rear wheels hit the culvert.

Flames rose 20ft and there were dense clouds of black smoke. The fire "burnt out the interior and buckled much of the steel-work on one side. ' Mrs Buller, the only occupant, suffered minor bruising: The other fire occurred in a car on the Montreal Street bridge. It caused slight damage to the engine,
