Amnesia Sufferer Identified
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 11. A 17-year-old Scottish seaman in Wellington Hospital suffering from loss of memory was identified today after an exchange of messages by the New Zealand police with the police in Suffolk.
He/is Mr Paul O’Callaghan, of Glasgow, a crew member of the Motor-vessel Port New Plymouth, which sailed from Wellington on Saturday for Hull. He was identified from a letter in his possession written by Miss Susan Harper, of! Dash End, Kedington, near, Haverhill, Suffolk. This morning a telex message was sent from Wellington asking them to find out whether Miss Harper could name the unidentified man. Within three hours, a reply was received with his name age and the information that his home is in Gilasgow, and the name of his ship. Mr O’Callaghan went to the central police station watchhouse last night and told the staff that he had no idea who he was or how he came to be in Wellington. The only articles in his possesion giving a clue to his identity were the letter, a bracelet inscribed with the name “Paul,” and a Merchant Navy monogram on his blazer.
