Antiques Spree Antique collectors have been on a spending spree at the annual fair of the Antique Dealers’ Association in Auckland. Antiques worth more than 8100,000 have been sold since the four-day fair opened in the Town Hall on Tuesday.—(P.A.) Fewer Whitebait In spite of a good run early last week, the whitebait season at Westport looks like being one of the poorest on record. So far this season only 8849 pounds has been lifted by air from Westport to Wellington, compared with 15,162 pounds in the same period last year.—(P.A.) New Stamp A new 7c stamp, depicting the fishing industry, will be issued on December 3 as part of the present definitive set. One panel will show a trawler at sea and the other a catch being unloaded on the deck of a fishing boat. The issue completes the series, within the definitive set, designed to draw attention to some of New Zealand's main exports. The other stamps of the series are the Bc, 10c, 20c and 25c, featuring the fruit, timber, wool, meat and dairy industries. Shops Passed In A block of three shops and two self-contained flats situated in the path of the proposed central motorway was passed in at $16,000 at auction yesterday, $l5OO below the Government valuation. The block is on the corner of Cashel Street and Barbadoes Street, and is built of brick. The two flats, which are above the shops, each have a lounge, a kitchenette and a bathroom. One has two bedrooms and the other has one. The area of the land is 12.2 perches. The auctioneer, for Ford and Hadfield, Ltd, was Mr D. O. Chapman.
Warship’s Visit I Eleven Christchurch mern-j bers of the South Island' Achilles Association will" fly to Wellington on Monday to! look over their old ship, the; I.N.S. Delhi. formerly > H.M.N.Z.S. Achilles, one of the ships in the Battle of the River Plate. They will! return to Christchurch in the| evening. On Sunday the ship: was greeted by more than 200 former Navy men and their families when she arrived in Auckland. Toll Bookings Bookings for overseas tele-' phone calls at Christmas and the New Year will be accepted by the international exchange from November 3, the Post Office advises. Bookings are usually heavy and early application is advisable if calls are required in the more popular hours. Hospital’s Work An open day would be held at Sunnyside Hospital on November 2 to give members of the public an opportunity of seeing what facilities the hospital had, the hospital secretary (Mr L. C. Proctor) said last evening. Mr Proctor said that there was a great deal of ignorance about psychiatric illness and hospitals. “We want to show people that the hospital is not a fearsome place.” he said. Although there was obviously a limit to what could be shown, there would be several displays of work done by patients. These would include art work, occupational therapy and box assembly work.
