Re-election Of Chairman At the annual meeting of the Ellesmere County Council this week, Cr W. E. Walker was re-elected chairman and Cr H. G. Stephens deputy chairman. Cr E. J. Stalker, who had held the office of deputy chairman for six years was chairman of the Springs County Council before its amalgamation with Ellesmere, declined nomination. Reporting on the rate col lection at the council’s monthly meeting, the County Clerk (Mr W. S. K. Drew) said that up to the date on whieh the discount period ended 40.97 per cent of the rate had been collected. The total levy had been $214,771, of which $84,472.82 had been received. Discount allowed had totalled $3509.52. Mr Drew said that the amount of rates received represented an increase on the total at the same date last year.
