PROVINCIAL BUILDINGS
No Heathcote Grant Yet The Heathcote County Council will pay nothing towards the restoration and fire protection of the wooden part of the Canterbury Provincial Council buildings until questions about income from rent are answered. The council last evening was told that the county's share of the cost of restoration was $l5lO. The chairman of the finance committee (Cr E. L. Tyndall) said he wanted to know what had become of all the rents that should have been paid by the occupants of the building over the years. He moved that a letter from the Canterbury Provincial Buildings Board be referred back to the finance committee for further information before the council committed itself to paying the $l5lO sought. Councils between Waipara and Ashburton have been asked to help to pay for the work. The Government has given $50,000 towards the work, which is estimated to cost $lOO,OOO.
