Top Skaters To Compete

The world title aspirants from Canterbury, G. M. Glover and Miss R. Alexander, are likely to be in top form for the South Island and southern regional roller skating championships in Christchurch this week-end. Glover, who has broken three world records this year, will confine his appearances to the senior men’s sprints and the 10,000 metres in the speed events. Miss Alexander appeals as the outstanding competitor in the senior womens events, with Miss C. Smith, who was placed in the Pacific championships last year, as her closest rival. The championships have drawn entries from 135 competitors from most parts of the South Island. Artistic and speed skating events and roller hockey will make up a formidable two-day programme.

On Mohday competitors will be given the opportunity of trying out the banked track at the Rollerdrome in non-championship events.
