President .Eduardo Frei, | giving a warning that the ! people of Chile would not tolerate military coups, said to!day the crisis in tbe country had been overcome, and ! that a number of rebel offi- ' cers would be tried by a military tribunal. ! President Frei also told tbe nation in a broadcast speech that Chile would remain ! under a state of seige until j things returned to normal, I and that he had ordered a | full investigation into the | wounding by gunfire of 14 [civilians on Tuesday night. | The rebel group was led by [ General Roberto Viaux, who (Surrendered at daybreak and : is now under house arrest. ; Shortly before noon, Pre- | sident Frei removed from .office the Minister of Defence (General Tulio Marami bio) and replaced him by the [Mr Sergio Ossa, the Minister of Public Works and Transportation. The rebels had demanded General Marambio's ! removal and the appointment jof a civilian.
