Holmwood Road

Sir, —Has any member of the Waimairi County Council ever driven along Holmwood road at night, intending to turn into Queen’s Avenue? He must have realised the absolute impossibility of finding the turn into this street. Indeed, the lighting is so shocking at the junction, the street so obscurely named, that the driver is apt to find himself suddenly on the right-hand side of Holmwood Road, looking for the turning into Queens Avenue. I consider this dangerous. Improved lighting and perhaps a brightly-coloured street sign at this corner are urgently needed, for the convenience and safety of road users.— Yours, etc., MOONLIGHT RAMBLER. September 30, 1969.

[The county chairman, Cr D. B. Rich, comments: “The lighting and street name sign at the intersection have been inspected by officers of the Municipal Electricity Department, which is the supplyauthority concerned, and the council. Your correspondent is thanked for his interest; as suggested by him, the situation is not satisfactory. Action is being taken by the Municipal Electricity Department to improve the lighting, and the council will replace the street name sign with a reflectorised one as soon as it is received from the manufacturer.”]
