Theft From Pocket

A stealthy burglar, who the police believe has been responsible for a number of thefts from houses in the last few months, was active again in Christchurch at the weekend. In one house he took $329, from another $7, and from another 50c. Complaints from three other persons whose houses had been entered at night or in the early morning were received by the police. Nothing had been stolen but in one case the offender was disturbed by the occupant. Early on Saturday morning the burglar gained entry by way of an unlocked door to a house in Alexandra Street, Richmond, and took $329 from the pocket of trousers of a sleeping occupant. He took 50c from a house in the same street, and was disturbed while in a third.

On Saturday night a house in Normans Road and one in Peverel Street were entered. Nothing was stolen. A wallet containing $7 was taken from a man’s pocket in a house in Harker Street, Spreydon, about 1 a.m. on Sunday. Cigarettes and chocolates worth $l3O were stolen when the Dawg House Lunch Bar, Durham Street, was broken into on Sunday night. Cans of pineapple worth $43 were taken from the Redcliffs Super Market the same night.
