Growing Need Seen
With the proposed clinical school of the University of Otago to be developed in Christchurch in the next few years there will be a continuing need for facilities for medical research, says Dr L. C. L. Averill, president of the Canterbury Medical Research Foundation, in his annual report “It is essential,” he says, “for all teaching units to be supported by research fafcilities, and it is certain that all new appointees to teaching positions in the Christchurch Clinical School will be asking for help from the Canterbury Medical Research Foundation. We cannot fail them.” . The annual report says that I the foundation made grants (amounting to $12,173 in the year to June 30, 1969. Dr Averill says there has been a considerable increase in membership because of the active support of the numerous Rotary Clubs in the Christchurch district enlisting new members. “This help and encouragement is greatly appreciated,” he says, “and has enabled the executive to look forward constructively to the future. ’
