FIRE DESTROYS BALED STRAW

House Endangered At Tuahiwi Fire in bales of straw could have endangered a house at Tuahiwi yesterday morning. The fire destroyed about 40 bales of straw stacked to form a fence only a few feet from the home of Mr A. Holcroft. No one was at home at the time and the alarm was given by a neighbour. The fire was extinguished by a unit from the Rangiora Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Rangiora County Council water tender. The Rangiora brigade extinguished another fire early on Saturday afternoon when timber near an incinerator chimney caught fire at the home of Mr H. W. Mehrtens, 22 Percival Street, Rangiora.
