Navy Launch On Bar

(N.Z. Press Association) WAIROA, October 12. Three of the Royal New Zealand Navy Fisheries Protection Squadron ships crossed the Wairoa River bar at 6.30 a.m. today but not before one, H.M.N.Z.S. Kahawai, had run aground near the bar entrance and shipped water, damaging her superstructure. One rating suffered bruised ribs and was later treated by a Wairoa doctor. The launches are now at anchor upstream.
