Racing For Whitebait
(From Our Own Reporter)
WESTPORT, October 12. The Ted Perkins Memorial Handicap at the Westport Jockey Club’s meeting at Riccarton on Tuesday will carry three unusual trophies, 101 b of whitebait each for the winning owner, trainer and jockey. The whitebait has been 1 given by a brother of a former Westport sportsman, the late Mr S. L. Perkins. He guaranteed that the whitebait would be fresh if he had to fish every river around Westport to get the required amount. A run of whitebait yesterday guaranteed a good supply.
