Excessive fouling allowed R. Tweedie and B. Mutchin. for the Rost, many opportunities to break deer of their markers to score, while R. Gunthorp and P. Mulligan defended strongly, forcing numerous poor passes. P. Carpintar and K. Thornton, Canterbury's now capo, made Impressive beginnings, and B. G. Spear, In goal, saved some difficult shots.
The fact that this was tho first match of the season was obvious, but with Canterbury meeting Wellington and Otago within the next six weeks some hard training is called for. Scorers tn the match were: Canterbury (T. M. McGurr 3, T. L. Gunthorpe 2, P. Carptnter 2, K. Thornton 2, and M. Hay). The Rest (Mustchin 3. B. Gunthorp 3, R. Tweedie).
