N.Z. Union Criticised (N.Z. Pratt Aeiociatlon) WAIROA. Strong criticism of the New Zealand Rugby Union in its treatment of the 1969 Maori team chosen recently to play the touring Tongan side was voiced by Sir Turi Carroll, leader at the New Zealand Maori Council, on Saturday night “YOu have only to look at the New Zeeland Maori selection and consider the facte that the team was not together a week before its first match to realise how unfairly our footballers have been treated.” be said. “The system of selecting the Maori AU Black side leaves much to be desired.
“If the New Zealand Rubgy Union is not going to encourage our Maori football, then let us develop it on a tribal basis so that one day we can readily say that we can be matched with anyone " Sir Tui Carroll told 13 former Maori All Blacks.
