SHARP RISE IN POWER DEMAND

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct 10. Today’s weather was reflected in the country’s electricity consumption. A spokesman for the Electricity Department said that the peak power demand to midday today had risen by 15 per cent in the North Island and 25 per rent in the South Island. Snow fell in Lower Hutt today for the first time in 40 yean. An average temperature of 40 degrees in Wellington was accompanied by winds gusting to 60 m.p.h.
