Seven Share $73,831 Wanganui Jackpot

WANGANUI, October 8.
Seven persons, including one who made a lucky mistake, shared the $73,831 Wanganui district jackpot at the Waverley racecourse today.
A New Plymouth man, Mr E. J. Tapper, collected the biggest prize, almost $21,100. Two syndicates and two individuals, one of whom has yet to collect his winnings, took $10,550 each. When making out bis ticket Mr Tapper mistakenly entered the winner. Fair Dinah, as one of his selections for the final jackpot race, the Jackson Memorial.
A Wellington plumber, Mr M. J. D. Opie, was another to collect a share of the jackpot He headed a three-man syndicate which also included Mr J. Schneideman, a manufacturer, and Mr J. M. Taylor,
a publican, both of Wellington. Mr Schneideman also had winning shares in the recent Tauherenikau and Avondale
jackpots. The biggest investment in the jackpot was $lOOO from a Hawke’s Bay race-goer, but his chances were ended when Fort Knox won in the first jackpot race. An Auckland visitor wagered $945, but his selection, Me Twopas, failed by a nose to win the last jackpot race. The winning Wairoa syndicate invested $7BB and there was a number of investments above $5OO.
