NEW JUDO CLUB
Black Belt Instructor
Christchurch judo enthusiasts and other interested persons will have the opportunity to learn this fast-growing sport when toe recentlyformed Osaka Judo Club opens its headquarters at 601 Colombo Street on Monday.
The formation of the club is th- work of Mr A. Linning, a black belt and a member of toe 1966 New Zealand team which toured Australia. Mr Linning is the present South Island light-weight titleholder but has been forced to abandon active competition because of a recurrent knee injury. He now plans to devote his time to fostering interest in the sport by way of coaching, especially that of children.
A former member of toe Can Am Ju club, Mr Linning is now the coach of the Canterbury University club, whose members, without facilities of their own at present, will now be able to train at Osaka. With assistance from several other Christchurch black belts, Mr Linning will provide instruction at the club on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for senior men and women, and for children from toe age of eight.
