Preference for paper bags over metal rubbish tins was shown by 87.7 per eent of those questioned by the Waimairi County Council in the 300-odd Bishopdale properties that are participating in a trial of paper-bag rubbish collection. The council, at its meeting thus week, was told that 70.5 per cent found that one bag a week was enough for normal household refuse, and 40.2 per cent said they would continue to use paper bags at 10c each if the council discontinued the bag scheme. Of 39.5 per cent of those questioned who found that their bags had been tom by animals, 81 per cent said the damage had been done while the bags were in their holders.
