Dunedin Wool Steady
(New Zealand Press Association)
DUNEDIN, August 27. Prices at the first Dunedin wool sale of the 1969-70 season today were generally unchanged for fleece wools, although coarser fleece and poorer style crutchings were slightly easier than at last week’s Invercargill sale.
There was widespread competition, the main bidding coming from the Continent. Once again there was a marked premium for stylish fleece.
Apart from some dusty wool from the dry areas the clip was in godd order, well grown and high yielding. The official report said that 24,218 bales were offered. The wools displayed came from all parts of Otago; crossbred predominated. The clip comprised about 50 per cent fleece, 20 per cent crutchings and the balance the usual oddments. A limited offering of halfbred fleece sold very favourably as compared with the recent Timaru sale.
Arts Purchases.—Sales for the first week-end’s showing of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts 1969 exhibition of sculpture, pottery, and graphic art were very satis- [ factory, amounting to almost [§3ooo, the secretary of the academy (Mrs Marcella Harper) said in Wellington yesterday.—(P.A.).
