SALVATION ARMY
Annual Appeal Tomorrow Alcoholics, unmarried mothers, pensioners, social services for men and women, residential homes for old and young persons and overseas missions will benefit from the Salvation Army’s annual community and overseas service street appeal to be held in Christchurch tomorrow. In Christchurch these community services include the Rest Haven Eventide Home, Colombo Street; the Sunshine Lodge Eventide Home, Merivale: the Bethany Maternity Hospital, Papanui; the People’s Palace, Manchester
Street; the Addington Men’s Social Service Centre; and the Samaritan office and emergency lodge, Bealey Avenue.
As well as providing emergency relief through its overseas missions in more than 80 territories, the Salvation Army is closely associated with medical work and is responsible for several clinics and leper centres. Money collected in the appeal for these missions will be distributed through the world headquarters in London. Last year of the $95,000 raised in New Zealand from the appeal, about $BOOO was collected in the Canterbury and Westland division.
