Two Boys Ordered Borstal Training

Borstal training was ordered for two boys aged 16 who appeared in the Children’s Court in July. One was charged with obtaining credit by fraud and the other with burglary and unlawfully taking motor vehicles.

Other cases dealt with in July were:—

Probation for three years was ordered when a 15-year-old boy appeared on charges of car conversion. A. boy, aged 16, who obtained credit by fraud, and was also charged with unlaw fully taking a car and with theft, was put on probation for two years and a half. Probation for two years was ordered for two boys, aged 16, one charged with unlawfully getting into a motor car and the other charged with driving while disqualified He was also fined 180 and his disqualification was extended to May 28, 1970. Charged with assault and threatening behaviour, a boy. aged 16, was put on probation for 18 months, as were two other youths of similar age charged with attempted theft and being idle and disorderly. On complaints that they were indigent children, two boys aged dne and a girl, aged three, were committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare.

Appearing on a complaint that she was not under proper control, a girl, aged 14, was put under Child Welfare supervision for 18 months, as were a boy. aged 16, charged with burglary and unlawfully taking motor cars, and a girl, aged 14, deemed to be a delinquent child. Charged with theft, three boys aged 14, were placed under supervision for a year, and in two cases restitution of $l6 92 and $74.30 was ordered. In addition to supervision for one year, a boy. aged 14, charged with burglarly and theft, and a boy, aged 15, also charged with burglary, were ordered to make restitution of $3.73 and $6.30 respectively. Two girls, aged 15, who were deemed to be not under proper control were placed under supervision for a year, as were a boy, aged 13, charged with receiving, a boy, aged 14. charged with theft and taking a bicycle, a girl, aged 15, who appeared on a charge of being Idle and disorderly, a boy. aged .14. charged with theft, and a boy, aged 15, who unlawfully interfered with motor cars. Two girls aged 14 and 15, charged with theft, were admonished and discharged, as were two boys of 14. who had unlawful possession of firearms, a 'boy. aged found drinking

liquor in a public place, and another aged 16. who appeared on a firearms charge; a girl, aged 17, charged with being idle and disorderly and a boy, aged 16, who unlawfully took a trailer.

In addition to being admonished and discharged the following were also ordered to make restitution: a boy aged, 14, charged with theft and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle (restitution $28.45); a boy, aged 14, who unlawfully took motor vehicles ($12.50); a boy, aged 15. charged with theft ($15.95); two boys, aged 13, charged with theft (60c and 83c respectively). Charged with escaping from lawful custody, three girls, aged 14 to 17, and a boy, aged 15, charged with theft, were admonished and returned to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare.

A fine of $25 was imposed on a boy of 16 charged with theft.
