ASSAULT IN SPREYDON

Police Seeking Two Men A man was hit over the head with a radio in Spreydon about 8.45 p.m. yesterday after he had disturbed two men breaking into his parked taxi. The taxi-driver, Robin Hill, of Silvester Street, had left his locked car outride the Salvation Army Hall, near the corner of Barrington Street . and Edinburgh Street. A , young woman saw two men trying to break into the taxi " and gave the alarm. Mr Hill caught one of the ’ men as they made off in dif- ’ ferent directions. During a 1 scuffle Mr Hill was hit* about the head with a transistor 1 radio which had been taken from his car. He suffered a • cut above the eye and ■ though be recovered the radio ' his assailant made off. The police were called and Constable I. Crewe and his • dog, Whip, followed a trail for about three-quarters of a mile across back sections, but lost it in Hillier Street, where it became confused in the tracks of persons going to and from the Industries Fair. The men are described as ■ being Europeans between 21 1 and 23 years and about sft i 7in. One is of medium build i and the other fairly well built i Both have long greasy hair. ’ One has hair ginger-brown in colour and either a goatee or whiskers. He was wearing a . dark duffel coat. The other was wearing a hat The police ask that any person who saw the men in the area or can help to identify them should get in touch with the nearest police station.
