FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An intense anticyclone over the south Tasman Sea is spreading slowly towards New Zealand. A shallow depression to the north-east of the North Island is moving away. Forecast: Canterbury.—Moderate southerly Winds; cloudy and cold; light showers still likely at first about and north of Banks Peninsula. Buller and Westland.—South-east winds, fresh at times; fine, with rising temperatures. Coastal Marlborough.—Strong southerly winds; cold, with some further showers but considerable fair intervals. Inland Marlborough and Nelson. —Fine and cool, with south-east winds, freshening at times. Outlook: fair.
