Mobile Starting
Sir,— Having been associated with trotting, in a small way as an owner and to my sorrow as a punter, may I be
permitted to express my opinion of the present move to abolish the mobile barrier? I have seen starts of all kinds for the last 70 years and 1 am convinced this mobile starting is easily the best and fairest to the betting public. From standing starts last Saturday at Addington Raceway horses got left in most races. Of all the objections to the mobile gate, I think the only one worth considering is that the gate is not suitable on undulating country courses. I consider that is a matter for the clubs concerned. I recently attended two meetings at Albion Park, Brisbane, and I have never seen better racing. All races including that for two-year-olds, are from the mobile gate, and at the two meetings I attended there no horse put a foot wrong.— Yours, etc., JOHN ANDERSON. Charteris Bay, August 19, 1969.
